Which shaving brush ?
The price of a shaving brush depends from the quality of the badger hairs (Silvertip being the best) but also the material of the handle (chrome parts, buffalo horn or wood, fine resin...).
The different types of shaving brushes:
1. Badgers in real badger hair
The hair badger is the preferred material for manufacturing shaving badgers, with their many qualities such as ability to retain water, soft contact with skin and their longevity.
There are several types of badgers qualities: pure badger, best badger, super badger and Silvertip badger.
Pure Badger quality is composed of the most common hair of the animal (lower abdomen). The Pure Badger badgers are costing the least expensive. The hairs are rough, usually dark and can vary in flexibility. Their diameter is smaller than the Best Badger or Super Badger.
Best Badger quality comprises a quality hair thinner and more flexible than Pure Badger.
Best Badgers are generally more dense hairs that Pure Badger and thus produce more foam. The hair is lighter than Pure Badger.
Super Badger quality is superior quality than Best and Pure badger. Super Badger is made up of hairs selected and sorted. Their quality is therefore improved. The hairs are clear in color.
Silvertip Badger or Premium Badgers quality are the best quality. The Badgers are the most expensive because manufactured with the rarest hair. The end hairs appear naturally white (Silvertip). The premium Badgers are handmade.
The Silvertip badger have better water retention and create a thick foam that provides a silky and comfortable sensation on the skin.
2. The synthetic hair badger and hair colored boar
These Badgers are made of artificial hair made of synthetic material like nylon or boar hair colored. The flexibility of their hair and their ability to retain water are very low. Their use can cause irritation and tingling sensation on the skin.
These badgers are part of the lower quality categories, you will not find them on Zone4men.
Care tips for your Mühle shaving brush
Before using it for the first time, clean your new Mühle shaving brush with soapy water. Immediately after shaving, rinse it thoroughly with clear water. Then dry the brush by repeatedly shaking out the remaining water before hanging it in a holder to dry – with the head pointing down. Avoid keeping wet brush in an enclosed space (e.g. toilet bag) for a prolonged period.
Wooden or horn handles must not be left in water and should be dried with a cloth after use.
